Reflexology & foot masage
Reflexology is a pressure point massage, based on the theory that certain points on the hands, feet and ears are linked to other areas of the body via the nervous system. At PremierPhysio our reflexologists have extensive experience and your treatment will be tailored to you personally, taking into account both physical and non-physical factors that might be affecting your wellbeing.
The theory behind reflexology is that it helps the body to restore its natural balance. After a treatment your tension may be reduced so you feel more relaxed - body and mind. You might also notice you sleep better and find your mood and sense of wellbeing improving.
With ever increasing levels of stress in everyday life, Reflexology may be a natural way to help ease the stresses of modern life. Many people also find reflexology helpful in reducing the following stress-related conditions:
- Tension headaches
- Arthritis
- Digestive
- Insomnia
- Menstrual problems
- Back pain
Limbic Reflexology
Limbic Reflexology is concerned with the limbic brain networks, which monitor what is going on in and around our body, to keep us safe and maintain balance. In response to the information gathered, the limbic system can generate emotional, physiological and behavioural responses; which determines how we feel and behave.
When these networks are disrupted, as they can be in conditions such as stress, anxiety, depression and chronic pain conditions, the limbic system can become oversensitive. People often seek help from Reflexology for chronic, unexplained, and difficult to treat conditions, including chronic pain. Limbic Reflexology treatments aim to help restore wellbeing to the body.
Limbic Reflexology enhances the conventional reflexology treatment by specifically targeting the areas of the feet corresponding to the limbic regions of the brain. Clients with chronic pain conditions or chronic anxiety issues may find this treatment useful in helping them cope with their symptoms.
Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage
Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage (RLD) focuses on stimulating the lymphatic reflexes on the feet to provide relief from the symptoms of secondary lymphoedema.
Lymphoedema is the swelling of tissue due to the failure of lymph drainage and may be experienced after the removal of lymph nodes following treatment for breast cancer. Research suggests that survivors with lymphoedema are more likely to suffer psychological and emotional difficulties, be more disabled, and experience a poorer quality of life than survivors without the condition. In 2011, the results of an exploratory research study at Cardiff Metropolitan University, found that treatment with RLD resulted in a statistically significant reduction in arm volume. A larger study on RLD was subsequently undertaken, and findings from this exploratory study indicate that RLD may be helpful in the management of secondary lymphoedema.
