Plantarfascitis (arch of the foot)

Plantarfascitis is a very painful condition, affecting the arch or instep of your foot. It is typically worse in the morning and gets better with movement. With time, it becomes more painful to walk and is very debilitating. It can be caused by a sudden increase in activity or long periods of standing and walking.

Physiotherapy treatment can include Shockwave Therapy ultrasound, acupuncture, friction massage, soft tissue release and taping. Exercises are often given to stretch the calf, strengthen foot muscles and improve balance. Self-massage techniques can be taught and advice on footwear given. The posture of your foot can also be a contributory factor. If this is thought to be the case, you may be referred for gait analysis to prevent any future issues.
